Week 4 & 5: Walls, Walls, Walls
The month of October is flying. Today was actually the first time I've been able to visit the land in two weeks! Between attending a conference in Chicago, one of my best friends getting married in Colorado, and then another conference this week, time has simply not been on my side. Luckily, my parents were able to stop by a few times and snap photos along the way.
If you recall from the Week 3 update, we had what looked like the beginnings of a giant swimming pool. The footers were poured and the drainage was in place, but things were still looking pretty bare. By the following Wednesday, my parents stopped by and found the same scene but with a bunch of stone covering the ground. Not a big change, but it was great to see that we no longer had standing water!
By Friday, we had forms in place and walls being poured! Tyler and I were in Colorado by this time, so it was a little nerve racking to think it was all happening and we wouldn't be able to see it anytime soon, but thank goodness for photos. :)
My parents stopped by again on Sunday afternoon and were greeted with some massive basement walls. Just look how tiny my Mom looks next to it all! She's basically standing in front of our kitchen sink window...
Our builder, Dan, followed up with an awesome photo on Tuesday morning showing a nice panorama of the space. The house is on the left and the garage on the right. The space in between will be a covered breezeway.
Tyler and I FINALLY stopped by to see everything in person today. It's amazing what can happen in a matter of weeks! Some waterproofing occurred near the end of the week - that's what all of the black stuff is on the exterior walls.
Below is a nice view from the garage to the front of the house.
We expect the basement floor to be poured and the entire structure to be backfilled with dirt next week. Once all of that is complete, hopefully we can start framing!
Check out this view... this is exactly where my Mom was standing in the photo above but looking down. It's a long way down there!
I hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful weather. Keep your fingers crossed for more of the same so that we can keep pushing ahead. I'll be back next week with another update!
