Week 7: Concrete Slabs
The good news is that we had forward movement with the house this week. The bad news is that it wasn't quite as monumental as we originally hoped. The framer was running a bit behind, so instead of getting started on Wednesday, it's getting pushed to next week.
On a positive note, the weather looks great next week and should allow the framers to move full steam ahead. I'm crossing my fingers we'll see some big updates soon.
In the meantime, concrete slabs in the basement and garage were successfully poured this week and backfill around the exterior was completed. It no longer looks like the house is floating - yay!
I have no idea how much dirt it took to get this all graded, but it had to be tons!
Thank goodness they were extra careful with our "love fern" (aka - the tree we planted at our wedding over three years ago). I was relieved to see he was still in tact and flourishing. I'm really looking forward to the day we can officially give him a permanent home!
The basement floor looks great, but I have to admit that I'm ready to see some wood instead of all concrete. On a positive note, it's going to be neat to see what we decide to do with this wide-open space in the future.
By Friday afternoon, the septic system was nearly finalized and all of the lumber was delivered. A whole home worth of wood - yikes! It looks like next week is going to be a busy one. Stay tuned.
