Capsule Wardrobe for Littles: F|W 2021

image 5.JPG

The capsule wardrobes for Marin continue in our household for yet another season. You can check out our previous capsules here: S|S 2021, F|W 2020. I’ve found the process to be really enjoyable over the last year+ as well as a way to make thoughtful choices based on quality, quantity, price, versatility, ease of cleaning, and longevity.

Here’s a breakdown of the quantities per category I loosely followed this F|W season. Our numbers may look very different from yours, and that’s perfectly okay! We have a little girl that LOVES dresses, so that’s where the majority of our items fall. For example, tops are mainly worn under the dresses, so hence the fitted styles. My best advice? Just do what works best for your lifestyle and preferences!

5 - 7 TOPS | 3 - 5 BOTTOMS | 6 - 8 DRESSES / JUMPSUITS | 6 - 8 OUTERWEAR / SWEATERS | 2 - 3 SLEEPWEAR | 3 - 4 SHOES | ACCESSORIES

T O P S

  • Gauze Flutter Blouse - This was a summer purchase, but the color is well suited for anytime of year. It’s a beautiful and versatile top. I’ll likely retire this and replace with long sleeves once temperatures are really chilly in our area, but it’s a great transition piece for the next few months.

  • Striped Tee - Purchased this particular print/color last year, but the style is identical to one sold this year (and I also purchased) . The tee proved to be too big for Marin last year, but I think she’ll get a lot of good use out of it this year.

  • Eyelet Blouse - Affordable and goes with anything.

  • B&W Mock Neck Tee - Easy to layer tee that is easy to wash and goes with anything.

  • B&W Set - Simple but super versatile set that can be mixed and matched with anything.

  • HOLD - I’m still on the hunt for another nice blouse and am holding off until a few small brands release their fall lines.

  • HOLD - Likely holding for a great basic top.

BOTTOMS

  • Olive Leggings - Another purchase from last year, but it looks like they’re still for sale. The weight is great for winter and the color is extremely versatile. Marin hardly wore these due to them being too big, but I think they should fit well now!

  • Ribbed Leggings - These are all year round leggings for us. They’ve seen tons of wear but are still in great shape after 9+ months.

  • HOLD

DRESSES | JUMPSUITS

  • Gretta Eyelet Dress - I bought this and the matching bloomers during Rylee & Cru’s late summer sale, and it is a beautiful dress. It’s perfect to transition from summer to fall and even into winter with some tights and a sweater. Marin loves it.

  • Gingham Pinafore - Great for any season and layers well. I’m also a sucker for gingham, so this was an easy purchase.

  • Ribbed Dress - Cozy, simple, and very affordable. This dress looks way nicer than the $14 price tag and is SUPER soft.

  • Gauze Prairie Dress - Bought this on clearance and it is such a beautiful yet basic dress. It goes with anything and washes well. LOVE this brand.

  • B&W Gingham - Simple, timeless, and goes with anything. I love the tie detail at the back of the neck.

  • Bubble Jumpsuit - Also bought this during the Rylee & Cru end of summer sale, and it is SO dang cute. It layers well and looks great.

  • Wrap Set - Lali Kids is a wonderful brand of clothing for little ones. They make extremely beauitful, well crafted clothes. I bought this wrap set for both Marin and baby as well as a coordinating dress - thinking Marin could wear the dress for the holidays.

  • HOLD - My Mom is making Marin a sweet pinafore dress. Coming soon!

OUTERWEAR | SWEATERS

  • Carhartt Overalls - If you’re outside a lot or have a really active child, these overalls are well worth the money. They hold up to tons of wear and tear and look SO dang cute.

  • Bobble Cardigan - This was a purchase last year that is still fits well and looks great. You also just can’t beat the price! It looks to be sold out now, but I bet Target will come out with something similar this season.

  • Nano Puff Jacket - Marin has worn and I have washed this jacket countless times over the last year, and it still looks like new. I bought it a little big hoping she could wear it for a few years, and it still fits great. It’s the perfect weight throughout fall and spring. The new Rosehip color is especially beautiful this year!

  • Textured Cardigan - This sweater is really nice and the color is lovely - not quite as pink as it looks online.

  • Hi-Loft Down Coat - A winter coat is a must-have around our area, and this one is both warm and functional. It’s puffy without being overly bulky and washes extremely well. I bought this for Marin last year, and she’ll still be able to wear it this year - and hand down to her sister!

  • Snowsuit - This was a clearance purchase last year so the exact print/style is no longer available, but I can’t recommend Patagonia snowsuits enough. They’re warm, water resistant, cute and a wonderful hand-me-down. Consider checking out Patagonia’s resale website, Worn Wear, for gently used pieces at great prices!

  • HOLD - Waiting to purchase a really nice sweater from Misha & Puff when their F/W collection releases. Their pieces are an investment, but the quality is top notch and baby girl will also be able to wear it when she’s older.

SLEEPWEAR

  • Spotted PJs - Marin has been wearing Plain Jane pajamas for about a year now, and we love them! Both the long sleeve/pant sets and short sleeve/short sets are great.

  • Floret PJs - Same PJs, just in a cute floral print.

  • B&W Stripe PJs - And again, same PJs but in a nice and basic stripe. We LOVE these super soft pajamas! I even own a pair. Ha!

SHOES

  • T-Bar Scallop Cognac - I’ve been wanting to buy a pair of these ever since Marin was born. They are pricey, but they are supposed to hold up extremely well. The brand is wonderful and out of Copenhagen, but Noble Carriage sells them in the states (which is a huge saver on shipping!).

  • Gingham Chucks - I bought these in the spring, but they were a little big for Marin to wear. She’s growing into them nicely now though, and I think they’ll see a ton of wear this fall and winter. It looks like this particular print is no longer for sale, but they come out with new ones all the time.

  • T-Bar Scallop Old Rose - Same shoes as the Cognac, but I just couldn’t pass up the awesome clearance price of these. They’re super cute in person - not overly pink!

  • HOLD - I fully anticipate we’re going to need a “warm” boot/shoe at some point this season. I haven’t decided what that will be, but I’m on the lookout.

ACCESSORIES

  • Pom Bonnet - I bought one of these for each girl to wear this winter during a summer “seconds sale”, and they are incredibly cute. We have several brimmed bonnets from Briar Baby, and the quality can’t be beat.

  • Ribbed Tights - These are a great basic tight that are super soft and hold up well.

  • Winter Hat - I’ve found the winter hats from Zara to hold up quite well to lots of wear and tear. They’re warm, stay on, and look great.

  • Mittens - These are from Rylee & Cru last year but are still in excellent condition. They stay on well and I like the fleece lining inside to keep hands toasty warm.

  • Fine Knit Tights - Great basic tights with texture at an affordable price.

  • Knee Socks - Collegian socks are pricey but super high quality. Marin has been wearing these for months, and they still look great.

  • Underwear - These packs of underwear have been our favorite. They wash well and the 12-24 month size is small enough for Marin.

  • Socks - Great basic socks.
