Capsule Wardrobe for Babies : 0 - 3 Months
I want to start off by saying I am not immune to the onslaught of incredibly cute baby/toddler stuff on the market. I’m amazed every day how brands can keep coming up with some of the CUTEST dang stuff. With that said, I do think there can be too much of a good thing. We don’t need or want to deal with tons and tons of stuff in our home, nor do I think it’s necessary or great for the environment, so I try to be smart about where we spend our money and the items we bring into our house. A Simple Wardrobe has worked incredibly well for me over the last 5+ years. I’ve taken a similar approach to little ones, and I’ve been pleasantly surprised with the results over the last two years. It’s not quite as cut and dry as they’re always growing and changing along with the seasons, but it does make me more mindful of my purchases.
Creating boards on Pinterest has been my go-to for years. I keep one for me as well as for the girls. I start out by size (0-3 months, 3-6 months, etc.) and then move on to seasonal once we hit 12 months of age. So for Marin I have a spring/summer and a fall/winter board. It helps me see everything we own in one place and ensure anything additional I buy coordinates. It’s really helped me fight off the urge to buy things just because they’re cute or on sale - much harder said than done sometimes!
With a fall/winter baby this time around, the following quantities per category seemed to make the most sense for our needs. This will obviously vary a bit depending on the season in which baby is born, your location, etc. Is there any rhyme or reason to the amounts? Not really. It just made the most logical sense for us at this stage and based on my experience with Marin the first time around.
10-12 TOPS / ONESIES | 3-5 SWEATERS / OUTERWEAR | 5-6 BOTTOMS | 2-3 ROMPERS / SETS | 3-5 PAJAMAS | 2-3 HATS | 10 SOCKS | ACCESSORIES
I also wanted to mention that you’ll see a few items below that were Marin’s when she was a baby. While I’m so relieved we’re healthy, this is an unexpected pregnancy for us, and I had actually sold/donated the majority of Marin’s baby clothes. Had we planned to have more kids, I definitely would have kept everything. Life just had other plans! For the items shown below that are hand-me-downs from Marin, I tried to link the same item if still available and if not, I linked to something similar.

Stripe Onesie (0-3M) - Kimono style onesies were my favorite with Marin, so I’m sticking with those this time around as well.
Wrap Knit Jacket (1-3M) - A warm and cozy layer for chilly fall and winter days.
Moss Stitch Sweater (1-3M) - Layers, layers layers.
Ribbed Onesie (0-3M) - This onesie was kindly sent to us by Red Caribou. The quality is excellent and it goes with anything.
Striped Tee (1-3M) - A nice striped tee goes with anything.
Ribbed Onesies (0-1M) - These ribbed onesies are affordable and really nice quality.
Gold Pointelle (0-3M) - I’m a sucker for anything pointelle, and these wrap onesies from Quincy Mae are SO nice. I bought it in three colors.
Ivory Onesie (NB) - This material is SO soft, perfect for those early newborn days. Plus, the neutral color means it goes with absolutely anything.
Open Knit Sweater (1-3M) - Sweaters are going to be on repeat this time around.
Petal Pointelle (0-3M) - Pointelle for the win!
Shearling Bunting (2-4M) - This was Marin’s when she was a baby and no longer sold, so I linked something similar. It may be a little big, but it should work just fine this winter on really cold days when we’re out and about.
Cardigan (1-2M) - This cardigan is a really pretty neutral shade in person. It looks far nicer than the $25 price tag. I liked it so much I bought one in Marin’s size as well.
Natural Pointelle (0-3M) - A little texture to make any outfit look great.
Neutral Onesies (1-2M) - When you can snag these on sale, they make for an incredibly affordable basic. Almost all of our onesies for Marin were from H&M, and they held up well.

Footed Leggings (1-3M) - These were Marin’s pants that I somehow never sold, and I’m so glad I have them. They were worn a ton but are still in great shape.
Knit Jumpsuit (1-3M) - This was another end of season clearance find. Zara jumpsuits were a favorite of ours with Marin, so I bought some this time around as well. I linked to a similar option.
Rib Knit Leggings (1-3M) - We had a few pair of these with Marin and they held up incredibly well and looked great with anything.
Ribbed Leggings (1-3M) - Affordable basics that go with anything.
Kimono Set (0-3M) - An incredibly soft and versatile set, this is what I plan to dress baby girl in for our trip home.
Knit Pants (1-3M) - Super soft and a touch of color.
Ribbed Pants (0-1M) - We’ve had these same pants in a different color for Marin, and they’ve been great. The adjustable waist is really handy, they wash well, and they look great.
Wrap Set (3M) - I’m all about versatile basics, but they really are only little once. Pick out at least one fun and super cute outfit! Even better if it can be mixed and matched with other basics. I bought this set to be worn for the holidays along with a coordinating dress for Marin.

Stripe Kimono Gown - This was Marin’s old gown that I happened to hang on to. We loved it! She wore it a ton and it’s still in like-new condition. This is the newer style so it has buttons and is slightly longer/bigger.
Footed Jumpsuit - This footed outfit was kindly gifted to us by Red Caribou. It’s incredibly soft 100% organic Pima cotton and the brand is wonderful. Highly recommend checking them out.
Dune Kimono Gown - This was Marin’s too. It’s the exact same as the stripe and also in excellent shape. This is the old style so no buttons and slightly smaller - perfect for those early days.
Ribbed Pajamas - Super soft and cozy!

Camel Pom Bonnet - I bought this during an online warehouse sale in June, so I’m not sure if they continue to carry this exact color, but Briar Baby bonnets are our absolute favorite. Marin’s been wearing their Brimmed Bonnets since she was six months old. I bought this pom for both baby and Marin to wear this winter!
Neutral Socks - The smallest size of these socks (000) don’t have them, but I like that the bigger sizes add the grippers on the bottom. It made those early days of crawling, walking, and standing so much easier for a little one on wood floors.
Knot Headband - This was Marin’s when she was little.
Ruffle Socks - Marin has these and we’ve liked them so when I found them on clearance, I bought a pair for baby too.
Leather Headband - This was also Marin’s.
Aspen Sherpa Bonnet - This bonnet is not only cute but super warm and cozy, perfect for a fall/winter baby.
Winter Hat - This is Marin’s old winter hat. It may be too big, but it’s super warm and cute so we’ll give it a shot.
White Socks - These are a great affordable basic. We had the same with Marin and they worked like a charm. I didn’t have any trouble keeping them on her feet.
