Motherhood: The Items We Love at 6 Months
I know everyone says it all the time about little ones, but they really do grow SO FAST! For that reason alone, I thought it might be helpful to provide an updated review of our favorite items. I’ve provided our Newborn Essentials, Pregnancy Essentials, and the 25 Items We Loved in the First 12 Weeks in the past. Feel free to check those out if you’re expecting soon. In this review, you’ll see several repeat items from those lists (highly recommend registering for these!) in addition to a few items that we’ve grown to need on hand. You will likely notice that a lot of the items are weather dependent. Obviously if you hit six months with your little one in July, many of these items will not be applicable. Regardless of age, however, I think many of these items are great autumn/winter/spring staples if you live in a cold climate.
These are the 25 items we use regularly. Each has seen excessive use and been put to the test, making them the top products that I feel confident recommending and would buy again myself.
Onesies : The kimono-style onesies from H&M continue to be my favorite. Many are made from organic cotton and the quality is top notch at a great price point. The kimono-style, however, is the real winner for me. While some may not love dealing with all of the buttons, I love the way they fit and they make changing blowouts SO much easier. If she’s wearing something that has to go over her head, poop inevitably ends up all over everything & everyone. Yikes! These remain my absolute favorite clothing choice.
Hat : The cutest hat, perfect for keeping a little one toasty warm. It washes well, too.
Carseat Cover : We bought one of these after seeing Megan of The Fresh Exchange recommend it, and it has been an excellent purchase. We never have to worry about putting coats on or taking them off when putting Marin in the car. Instead, we just dress her like normal, put her in the car seat, and zip up the fleece cover. LOVE this thing.
Elvie Breast Pump : I’ll be honest and say that I don’t love everything about these wearable breast pumps, but having them has been a lifesaver. I have a double breast pump that has to be plugged in and held. While it seems more effective, it’s a big pain in the butt to lug around and be dependent upon an outlet + using two hands. The Elvie is extremely convenient and has saved me SO many times. I use it most often while driving. Full Disclosure: Elvie sent these to me to try but all opinions are my own.
Snot Sucker : The best invention for little ones. It sounds gross but really isn’t at all. We use this every morning and night, at a minimum.
Goose : Marin’s favorite toy! I bought this on a whim and it’s been an excellent purchase. It’s the ideal toy for her to play with and snuggle when she’s in her carseat.
Thule Stroller : We transitioned Marin from her car seat (attached to the stroller using this adapter) to simply riding in the stroller using the harness over the last month, and it’s been great! She’s pretty small for her age, so we were a bit nervous about the switch, but she seems to love being able to see her surroundings and the extra leg room. We’re still thrilled with our stroller choice, although I will say that we bought a second stroller for my sister’s house in California and went with the BOB Rambler (I found a killer deal on Cyber Monday). We tested it out and it’s a really great, slightly less expensive, jogging stroller option. The one feature I actually like even more than the Thule is the sun shade. It comes down REALLY far but still allows Marin to see. In sunny California, a must-have feature!
Play Gym : Tyler found this play gym and insisted we buy one for Marin. She LOVES it. I like the minimal design and ease of cleaning.
Eczema Balm : We refer to this as “magic balm” in our household. Marin has pretty sensitive skin but this stuff clears up anything. If she has a little redness at night, it’s completely gone by morning with just a touch of this. They also have an eczema wash but we’ve never tried it.
Stroller Bunting : We vowed to stay active even after Marin was born, and this fleece bunting helps us do just that. It attaches seamlessly to the Thule jogging stroller and keeps little one’s toasty warm.
Overalls : I have really come to love a good pair of overalls. They function well and look SO dang cute. We have several from Zara and all wash well and look great. A bit to my surprise, they are actually just as easy to slide off for diaper changes as a pair of pants.
Teething Toy : Wood toys are a favorite in our house. This teether is both beautiful and easy to wash - win win!
Cough & Mucus Syrup : Marin has caught a few colds over the last few months (thank you, daycare), and this stuff has been great at breaking up her mucus/snot. The ingredients are excellent, so I don’t ever worry about giving this to her. We have both the day and night syrups.
Rain/Wind Cover : The perfect stroller accessory for keeping a little one dry and out of brisk winter winds.
Boogie Mist : We’ve tried a few mists, but this one has proven to flush out snot the best.
Bouncer : I’ve mentioned this bouncer countless times, but it remains our #1 must have. Marin loves it, we love it. Highly recommend!
Changing Pad : I’ve used a few other changing pads while traveling, and every time I instantly realize how amazing this changing pad really is. It never stains, washes extremely easy, and stays put! We love it.
Baby Carrier : I’ve tried a few carriers, but this one seems to be the most comfortable for both Marin and I. It has plenty of support without feeling overly bulky. I’m actually planning to use it for an upcoming trip to California, and I think it’s going to be a great solution.
Diaper Balm : At the first sign of redness, we apply a little of this balm. By the next diaper change, the redness is almost always gone. We love the clean ingredients of this one! While a pretty small container, it actually lasts a quite a long time.
High Chair : Tyler’s parents bought this for Marin for Christmas. We haven’t put it to a ton of use yet, but I love the look of it and it seems like it will transition well over the next few years.
Spoon : Marin LOVES real food. We’re sort of following the Baby Led Weaning methodology, and Marin has really gotten the hang of feeding herself with a spoon. It’s so cute! These spoons are perfect for her little hands.
Snowsuit : Cute, cozy, and the perfect winter accessory for a little one. Just keep in mind that the snowsuits from H&M run pretty big. Marin is small but she wears this in a size 2-4 months (and she’s 6 months).
White Noise : Everyone highly recommended this white noise machine when we were pregnant, but I didn’t fully appreciate the affects until recently. When she was little, I thought it helped keep really loud noises from waking her. But now, it REALLY helps her fall asleep. It’s kind of creepy actually. The instant we turn it on and put her close to it, she falls asleep.
Bibs : I originally bought these because daycare required bibs when we sent Marin at 12 weeks. I didn’t know what to buy, so I just got these from Amazon on a whim. As it turns out, they work really well! They get under her chin better than your normal bib and soak up allllll the drool and milk. They wash well, too.
Infant Lounger : I know most people have probably stopped using an infant lounger by six months, but we’re still going strong over here! Marin absolutely loves this thing and. it has proven to be the BEST purchase.
